Arc rated utility face shields & hoods requests should specify the approved equipment and its intended use with the rest of the employee’s ensemble. Accessory buying requires the same product-level review as shirts or coveralls. A generic description is not enough to establish protection or compatibility.

Face shields and hoods

Provide the safety team’s documented requirements and ask for the exact equipment model. Review intended mounting, coverage and compatible components using manufacturer documentation. Do not combine separate products into an assumed approved system merely because they fit together physically.

Flame resistant utility outerwear & coats

Ask which performance is required for the outer layer and how it will be worn with the approved clothing. Identify seasonal insulation or rain features separately. Have the proposed combination reviewed before the quote is accepted.

High-visibility arc-rated vests

A vest request combines visibility and arc-rated requirements. Require documentation for each relevant characteristic. Have the safety reviewer check the exact garment and any logo placement. A reflective vest is not automatically suitable over an arc-rated uniform.

Arc flash resistant base layers & t-shirts

Use documented FR or arc-rated descriptions rather than treating arc flash resistant as a stand-alone specification. Ask for the employer-approved model and manufacturer information. Do not add the base layer’s rating to an outer garment rating to produce an unsupported total.

FR balaclavas and neck gaiters for linemen

A neck gaiter and balaclava can have different coverage and documentation. Do not treat them as interchangeable. Specify the exact approved product and review compatibility with the head and face equipment selected by the safety team.

OSHA’s electric-arc clothing guidance provides context for coverage and protective clothing selection. Your qualified reviewer determines the applicable requirements for the work.

Keep accessories visible on the order

List each component separately with model, size where relevant and quantity. Ask the supplier to identify any unavailable components rather than describing the ensemble as complete without confirmation. TECHACS can discuss inquiries, while specific equipment availability must be checked.

Prepare a reviewable utility purchasing request

  • Employer-approved garment specification and applicable documentation.
  • Exact model, color and quantity for each size and length.
  • Designated safety reviewer for alternatives or proposed layers.
  • Delivery ZIP code, receiving contact and required arrival date.

Ask for an itemized quotation showing garments and any applicable decoration, setup or freight charges. Confirm stock for the complete size mix and review any proposed substitution before acceptance. Retain the final product documentation with the accepted order so receiving staff can check what was supplied.

Browse the TECHACS catalog and use our bulk FR quotation checklist when preparing your inquiry.
